While propane gas is a clean, safe, and efficient energy source, it is important that you are aware of several basic tips for your protection. The following information can help prevent a propane hazard from occurring on your property and offers precautionary directions for what to do in the event of a propane emergency.
Important Information about Gas Leaks
If you can smell propane in your home or business, follow these steps:
- Immediately put out any open flames or smoking materials.
- Do not touch or turn on any light switches or electronics, as this can cause a spark. This includes smart phones!
- Inform other inhabitants and leave the building immediately.
- If you are able to access your propane tank safely, turn off your gas supply. To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).
- Away from your property, report a leak by calling 911 or contacting us at (337) 774-2277 or (337) 439-4051.
